FirstNet Announces August 27 Industry Day to Continue Engagement with Public Safety, Industry

RESTON, VA – The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) announced today it will hold a second Industry Day on Thursday, August 27, to address both recent developments and key next steps for its nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN) acquisition. The Industry Day will take place at FirstNet’s headquarters in Reston, VA from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Eastern Time and will be open to the public and broadcast via webcast.

“We are committed to sharing as much information as possible on our acquisition approach to ensure industry and public safety are prepared for the upcoming Request for Proposals later this year, and this Industry Day is another opportunity for us to do so,” said FirstNet Acting Executive Director TJ Kennedy. “As with the first Industry Day, we look forward to having local, state, tribal, and federal agencies, market participants, and the public participate in the event.”

At the Industry Day, FirstNet plans to provide an update on the responses to the Special Notice and draft RFP documents. Additionally, FirstNet will provide updates on the public notice process, review its analysis of the more than 660 questions received regarding the Special Notice and draft RFP documents, and provide opportunities for onsite and webinar participants to ask questions.

“We are pleased with the interest and feedback we have received regarding the Special Notice and draft RFP documents, and this Industry Day will further our engagement with the public safety and vendor communities on FirstNet’s efforts and progress,” Kennedy said.

The event will take place in the Dallas L. Peck Memorial Auditorium at the US Geological Survey building in Reston, VA, and will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is required to attend the event in person, as space will be limited to 250 participants.
