On Wednesday, August 19, 2015, Commerce Secretary Pritzker announced the appointment of four individuals to serve on the Board of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), including two new members. Following are statements from Board members on the announcement.

Sue Swenson
FirstNet Chair
“I am pleased to announce the addition of two new members to the FirstNet Board, effective tomorrow. Joining us are Neil Cox and Ed Horowitz, both of whom have extensive experience and expertise in the communications industry. We also welcome back both Chief Kevin McGinnis and Mayor Annise Parker. They are being reappointed and bring critical public safety (EMS) insights and local government experience to the Board.

"I also want to take this opportunity to thank Tim Bryan and Frank Plastina for their contributions to FirstNet. Tim joined the Board at its inception and has been FirstNet's Finance Chair during his tenure, bringing both his financial and industry expertise to many important discussions at FirstNet. He also gave generously of this time to important Governance and Personnel matters. Frank joined the Board last year, and in a very short time helped shape FirstNet's acquisition process and provided much valuable input to the Finance and Technology Committees.”

Edward Horowitz
Venture Capital/Technology Executive
“I am honored to have been selected for the FirstNet Board and look forward to working with the FirstNet team and the public safety community to deliver a nationwide broadband network for our first responders.”

Neil E. Cox

“It will be an honor to serve as a member of the FirstNet Board. FirstNet has made tremendous progress toward deploying the nationwide public safety broadband network, and I am excited about the opportunity to be a part of this important mission.”

Annise Parker

“I’m proud to represent Houston in this vital public safety mission. I understand cities and I will bring that perspective to the FirstNet Board as we continue to learn more about the national voice and data information exchange.”

Kevin McGinnis
Chief/CEO, North East Mobile Health Services
“I am extremely honored to be re-appointed to the Board. I have enjoyed the challenges and progress we have seen in my first three years with FirstNet. I believe, more than ever, that FirstNet will fundamentally change the way EMS is practiced. I look forward to building on the progress we have made to deploy a broadband network for public safety. The network will provide mission critical, real-time information that will transform the way we all respond to emergencies for the benefit of our communities and the safety of first responders throughout the nation.”

Tim Bryan

"I was honored to serve on the inaugural Board of FirstNet. There is no group in this nation more deserving of our dedication of time and effort than the public safety community, and I greatly appreciate the opportunity.”
