FirstNet Builds Up Regional Coordination Team

March 23, 2015

By Amanda Hilliard, FirstNet Director of Outreach

The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) continues to build up its User Advocacy team by bringing on two regional leads with significant experience in emergency communications. Both leads also have excellent first-hand knowledge of FirstNet’s outreach activities and planning for the nationwide public safety broadband network (NPSBN).

Today, Tim Pierce begins with FirstNet as the Region 5 Lead. In this capacity, Tim will serve as FirstNet’s single point of contact to, and lead FirstNet’s outreach and consultation activities with, the public safety community in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Tim comes from the state of Wisconsin where he was the state single point of contact (SPOC) and statewide interoperability coordinator (SWIC). He has also served as a Communications Unit Leader (COML) with the Wisconsin Statewide Incident Management Team as well as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT).

Next month, Steve Noel will be joining the team as our Region 10 Lead, working with the public safety community in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Steve is the SPOC for Oregon and has served as the SWIC since 2006. In addition, Steve is the Chair for the Regional Emergency Communications Coordination Working Group for FEMA Region 10, and current Vice Chair of the National Council of Statewide Interoperability Coordinators. He is also a member of the SAFECOM Executive Council.

Both Steve and Tim will be based out of their home states of Wisconsin and Oregon, to enable frequent travel to the states within their respective regions. They will both report to Jeremy Zollo, State and Local Outreach Lead. We look forward to adding more regional leads in the coming months.
