FirstNet User Advocacy Outreach Team Adds 9-1-1, EMS, and Fire Advisors

The FirstNet User Advocacy Outreach team has expanded its roster of public safety experts with the addition of three Senior Advisors who specialize in the fields of 9-1-1, EMS, and Fire.  Our new team members are Bill Hinkle (9-1-1), Brent Williams (EMS), and Mike Worrell (Fire).  They join Joshua Ederheimer, who has been serving as the Senior Law Enforcement Advisor to FirstNet.  Their primary focus is to design and deliver a national targeted education and outreach plan to engage public safety officials within their respective disciplines in planning for the nationwide public safety broadband network.  While they are focused on the national level, FirstNet’s Senior Advisors are available to support the state and territory single points of contact in statewide outreach efforts.

As the Senior 9-1-1 Advisor, Bill Hinkle brings more than 30 years of public safety communications experience to FirstNet, serving most recently as Senior Vice President of Strategic Industry Relationships at Intrado Inc.  Prior to that, Bill was the Director of Communications for the Hamilton County Department of Communications, a consolidated center serving 106 police, fire, and EMS agencies in 46 political jurisdictions, in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He is also a past President of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).  Bill is based in Ohio and can be reached at William.hinkle@firstnet.gov or 202-641-5682.

Brent Williams, Senior EMS Advisor, joins FirstNet from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services where he was as an EMS Radio Communications Consultant to the EMS and Trauma Systems Section since 2002.  In that role, Brent was the subject matter expert on EMS radio communication systems and requirements.  He has also worked as an independent consultant for many local units of government and served for 11 years as a police patrol officer and over 20 years as a practicing paramedic.  Brent was also a long standing member of the DHS SAFECOM Emergency Response Council.  Brent is based in Michigan and can be reached at brent.williams@firstnet.gov  or 202-794-4372.

Mike Worrell, Senior Fire Services Advisor, comes to FirstNet from the Phoenix, Arizona Fire Department where he served for 29 years, most recently serving as the Technical Services Division Chief.  Mike was also a member of the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC) to FirstNet, a member of the National Urban Search and Rescue Incident Support Team, and a qualified Communications Unit Leader and Communications Technician instructor.  Prior to joining the Phoenix Fire Department, Mike was an Electronics Technician in the U.S. Navy, Submarine Service.  Mike is based in Arizona and can be reached at mike.worrell@firstnet.gov or 202-815-8455.

Joshua Ederheimer is on detail to FirstNet from the U.S. Department of Justice.  He spent more than 22 years with the D.C. Police Department, where he attained the rank of Assistant Chief.  Joshua also served as the Director of the Center on Force and Accountability at the Police Executive Research Forum.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund; the Board of Trustees of the National Law Enforcement Museum; the Advisory Board of the International Law Enforcement Forum;  and other organizations.   Mr. Ederheimer was an Adjunct Professor of Justice at American University's School of Public Affairs, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses on law enforcement for more than 10 years.  Josh is based in Washington D.C. and can be reached at joshua.ederheimer@firstnet.gov or 571-665-6035.
