AT&T, in public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority), added a new 5G cell site in Horseshoe Beach as a direct result of state and local public safety feedback, boosting wireless connectivity for first responders on FirstNet®, America’s public safety network.

Today, AT&T and the FirstNet Authority joined local first responders, public safety officials and community leaders to highlight the site, which was built as part of AT&T and the federal government’s ongoing work to expand the FirstNet network where first responders need it most.

"Reliable communications can make all the difference when a hurricane is approaching or when someone calls 911 from a remote part of our county,” said Dixie County Sheriff Darby Butler. “This new site closes a critical coverage gap, giving our deputies and the people we serve a stronger, more dependable connection when it matters most. We're grateful for this investment in Dixie County and for the collaboration that made it possible."

The Dixie County Sheriff’s Office and other local public safety agencies have historically faced challenges staying connected in Horseshoe Beach, particularly during hurricane response. This new cell site will enhance connectivity and strengthen emergency response and operational efficiency for multiple state and local agencies.

“The FirstNet Authority worked hand-in-hand with the Florida public safety community to understand their needs for the network. This new site is a prime example of how that input and feedback is translating into greater coverage and capabilities for public safety,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson, FirstNet Authority Board Chairman and Sheriff of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. “These investments in coverage will help Florida first responders better serve and safeguard their communities.”

Created by the U.S. Congress after 9/11 and built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the federal government, FirstNet is the only nationwide, high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for public safety. This new cell site is the first to launch of over 135 new sites to be deployed across the country so far, as part of a series of strategic investments. The FirstNet Authority, in collaboration with AT&T, is identifying locations for these sites using data modeling and feedback gathered directly from public safety through local coverage enhancement workshops and other engagements

“FirstNet is the only network built with and for public safety, and this new, purpose-built site is a powerful example of that mission in action,” said Scott Agnew, President – FirstNet, AT&T. “First responders told us where they needed stronger connectivity, and together we’re delivering mission-ready solutions and connectivity for their unique needs. This new site reflects the strength of our public-private partnership and shared commitment to supporting those who protect our communities every day.”

As public safety’s partner, AT&T has already grown FirstNet to cover more first responders than any network nationwide. FirstNet provides unique benefits to public safety like always-on priority and preemption across FirstNet Band 14 spectrum and all AT&T commercial spectrum bands. Overseen by the federal government, FirstNet is designed to meet public safety’s needs and continually evolves based on their feedback. Unlike commercial networks, FirstNet delivers purpose-built solutions focused on helping save lives and supporting critical missions.

In addition to supporting the area’s first responders, this new cell site will also enhance the network experience for AT&T wireless customers in Horseshoe Beach.
