Honoring first responders and public safety professionals

By First Responder Network Authority

In communities across the nation there are heroes, both seen and unseen, hard at work responding to emergencies and preparing for crisis. Each spring, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority) recognizes the dedication, excellence, and sacrifices of the first responders who work around the clock to answer the call and protect their communities.

April 1 – 30: Emergency Communications Month
April is Emergency Communications Month, honoring emergency communications professionals who support the communications systems that keep our communities safe.

April 13 – 19: National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we honor emergency telecommunicators, dispatchers, and call takers and the vital role they play in public safety.

April 20 – 26: National Volunteer Week
Public safety is a team effort, and volunteers play a crucial role in emergency response and recovery. Volunteer firefighters, medical reserve corps members, disaster response volunteers, and many others step up to support people on their worst days, and we thank them for their service.

May 3: Wildfire Community Preparedness Day
Recent years have seen an increase in the frequency and devastation of wildfires. On this day, communities are encouraged to learn about how to reduce wildfire risks. We also encourage you to recognize the hard work and sacrifice of our nation’s wildland firefighters a few months later on July 2, National Wildland Firefighter Day.

May 4: International Firefighters’ Day
International Firefighters’ Day pays homage to the bravery and dedication of firefighters around the world. We honor the men and women of the fire service and all they do to protect life and property.

May 11-17: National Police Week
During National Police Week, we honor our nation’s law enforcement officers who selflessly and courageously serve and protect their communities. We also pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

 May 18 – 24: National EMS Week
National EMS Week honors the EMS providers and professionals across the nation who work day and night to save lives and provide compassionate medical care to their communities.

From all of us at the FirstNet Authority, we offer our profound respect and heartfelt gratitude to our nation’s public safety professionals and volunteers. It is our honor to serve these heroes.
